Lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus species) and bifidobacteria are naturally occurring types of bacteria found in fermented foods such as yoghurt, kefir and sauerkraut. They are among the most frequently studied microorganisms in nutritional science worldwide. Inulin and dextrin are plant-based fibres that occur naturally in chicory, garlic and onions and serve as a nutrient source for bacterial cultures. The combination of bacterial strains and prebiotics in a single formula is known as a synbiotic.

For Kultur 13 from Natura Nova, 13 defined bacterial strains are used, with a bacterial count of 6 billion CFU per daily dose. Production takes place in a GMP-certified facility in Germany. Every batch is laboratory tested for purity, identity and microbiological parameters. The vegan HPMC capsule shell contains no animal-derived ingredients. The recommended daily dose is 2 capsules.
